HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT MANAGER CONFIDENTIAL OPPORTUNITY | COMMERCIAL FIT-OUT & REFURBISHMENT The Opportunity An established construction business is looking to appoint a Health, Safety & Environment Manager to lead the day-to-day HSE function across its national project portfolio. This is a highly influential role, working closely with the Executive Board, Senior Leadership Team and operational delivery teams. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape HSE strategy, strengthen standards and embed a proactive safety culture within a growing SME. Job Purpose The HSE Manager will operate as a strategic partner to the business, developing and delivering HSE services that support business performance while providing practical advice, guidance, direction and support to internal teams, contractors and site management. Success will be demonstrated through strong legal and regulatory compliance, effective risk management, measurable improvements in HSE performance, a proactive safety culture and the integration of HSE principles into operational delivery and business growth. Key Responsibilities Partner with the Executive Board and Senior Leadership Team to design, develop and implement best-practice HSE solutions that meet legislative requirements and current and future business needs. Collate, analyse and monitor HSE performance data, identifying trends and improvement opportunities and presenting recommendations to senior leadership. Develop, review and maintain HSE policies, procedures and supporting documentation in line with relevant legislation and industry best practice. Build strong relationships with operational leaders, project teams and other key stakeholders to support safe and effective project delivery. Engage with client HSE representatives where required, providing guidance on project processes, procedures and operational delivery. Assess key business and project risks and ensure proportionate control measures are implemented to eliminate or reduce risk. Develop and communicate safe operational procedures that account for relevant hazards and project-specific risks. Ensure regular site inspections and audits are completed, with a strong focus on coaching, corrective action and continuous improvement. Maintain accurate inspection and audit records and ensure agreed improvement actions are completed and closed out. Undertake periodic audits of company premises and implement appropriate control measures where required. Carry out high-level reviews of contractor HSE documentation to ensure compliance with company standards and relevant legislation. Keep up to date with changes to HSE legislation and regulation, ensuring these are reflected in company working practices and procedures. Provide guidance and training support to project delivery teams to ensure changes in requirements are understood and embedded. Provide professional HSE expertise across the business in support of the wider HSE strategy. Chair and contribute to Health & Safety Committee meetings, driving engagement, accountability and consistent standards. Inspire and motivate teams to achieve high and consistent HSE standards across a geographically distributed workforce. Support the development of HSE knowledge and capability across the wider business. Lead by example, setting high standards and demonstrating the organisation's values in all HSE activity. Candidate Profile Proven experience in a Health & Safety / HSE management role within construction or a closely related project-led environment. Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, regulations and industry best practice. Experience influencing senior stakeholders and working collaboratively with operational and project delivery teams. Confident conducting site inspections, audits, risk reviews and contractor-documentation reviews. Strong communication, leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to influence a distributed workforce. Commercially minded and comfortable balancing robust HSE standards with the practical requirements of project delivery. Self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership of HSE within an SME environment. Why Consider This Opportunity? £55,000 - £65,000 base salary plus £5,000 car allowance and additional benefits.
