The Estimator is responsible for delivering a professional, accurate, and timely estimating service for identified tender enquiries and projects. The role supports the successful conversion of tenders into awarded work and ensures effective communication with internal teams throughout the process.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive tender submissions within agreed timescales.
- Follow up submitted tenders to support successful contract awards.
- Communicate all relevant information on awarded projects to commercial and contract management teams to ensure a smooth handover.
- Provide weekly updates on tender status to the Senior Estimator.
- Undertake site visits and surveys as required during the tender stage.
Skills and Knowledge
- Estimating qualification and/or relevant industry experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Competent IT skills, including use of estimating software and standard office applications.

Main Duties
- Prepare detailed and competitive tender submissions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with requirements.
- Complete high-quality take-offs and measurements from drawings and specifications.
- Take ownership of tenders allocated by the Senior Estimator and manage them through to completion.
- Obtain all necessary information from clients, including drawings, scope details, and variations.
- Attend site visits during the tendering stage, including meetings with prospective clients where required.
- Source additional technical or commercial information as needed to support accurate pricing.
- Liaise with internal departments such as commercial, finance, and operations to ensure alignment.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with new and existing clients.
- Keep clients informed throughout the tender process, providing updates as required.
- Provide regular updates to the wider team on progress and workload.
- Prepare and present estimating and performance data when required.
- Assist with pricing variations to existing projects when requested by the commercial team.
- Ensure all contract-related information is collected, documented, and communicated to delivery teams.
- Re-measure sites when requested, including attending site visits where necessary.
- Attend scheduled team and departmental meetings.
- Present awarded tenders and performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) at review meetings.
- Provide regular highlights or summaries of work in progress.
- Promote best practice in customer service and continuous improvement.
- Support quality assurance processes in line with applicable quality standards.
- Take responsibility for direct cost pricing and procurement input where required.
- Participate in quality audits and address non-conformances or improvement actions as needed.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties consistent with the responsibilities of the role.
