About the Opportunity

The Role
The EHS Manager will lead all Environmental, Health & Safety activities across a major UK manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with UK legislation while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence. Working as a key member of the Site Leadership Team, you'll provide strategic guidance, support business objectives, and champion a proactive safety culture throughout the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance & Management Systems
- Ensure compliance with all relevant UK environmental and health & safety legislation.
- Maintain and continuously improve the site's EHS management systems.
- Manage environmental permits and maintain positive relationships with regulatory authorities.
- Ensure statutory reporting and compliance obligations are completed accurately and on time.
- Lead and support internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Coordinate corrective actions and drive continual improvement.
- Operational EHS Support
- Provide expert EHS advice and guidance across all departments.
- Support contractor management and safe systems of work.
- Review and facilitate risk assessments, permit-to-work systems, confined space activities, work at height, and other high-risk operations.
- Identify and manage EHS risks across the site.
- Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Act as a key member of the Site Leadership Team, influencing strategic decision-making.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement EHS best practice.
- Monitor legislative developments and ensure changes are effectively implemented.
- Safety Culture
- Promote a positive, proactive safety culture across the organisation.
- Engage with managers, employees, and contractors to improve EHS awareness and performance.
- Develop effective communication and engagement initiatives that encourage employee involvement.
- Stakeholder & Emergency Management
- Build effective relationships with regulators and external stakeholders.
- Support emergency planning activities and coordinate emergency response exercises.
- Represent the business professionally during external inspections and meetings.
- Environmental Management
- Oversee waste management activities and environmental compliance.
- Ensure waste handling, storage, transportation, and disposal comply with legislation.
- Provide technical guidance on environmental matters including emissions, waste, and environmental permitting.
Skills & Experience
- Essential
- Degree or equivalent experience in Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent professional Health & Safety qualification.
- Strong knowledge of UK EHS legislation within a manufacturing or process industry environment.
- Experience working within highly regulated manufacturing operations.
- Proven experience implementing EHS management systems and driving compliance.
- Strong background in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Desirable
- Chartered membership (or working towards) of a recognised professional body (e.g. IOSH or IEMA).
- Experience managing environmental compliance, permitting, and waste management.
