We are currently recruiting a Health & Safety Advisor on behalf of a well-established and growing construction business operating across multiple residential sites. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive H&S professional who enjoys being site-based, influencing culture, and driving continuous improvement.
As Health & Safety Advisor, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing health and safety standards across active construction sites. You will carry out regular site inspections and audits, ensure compliance with UK legislation and company policies, and work closely with site and operational teams to close out actions effectively.
You’ll also support senior leadership with H&S initiatives and projects, helping to embed a strong, positive safety culture throughout the business through coaching, training, and hands-on engagement.
Responsibilities
- Conduct monthly (or ad hoc) health & safety inspections across live construction sites
- Audit sites against company policy, legislation, and industry best practice
- Produce clear inspection reports and support site teams in closing out actions
- Ensure compliance with UK health & safety legislation, including CDM Regulations
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and RIDDOR events
- Review Construction Phase Plans (CPPs) where acting as Client under CDM
- Provide practical H&S advice, guidance, and support to site teams
- Liaise with external bodies such as the HSE and Environmental Agency when required
- Deliver training, coaching, and mentoring to improve site safety standards
- Promote best practice, lessons learned, and occupational health initiatives
- Champion a positive health & safety culture across the business
About You
Essential Requirements
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate
- Full UK driving licence
- Proven experience in a Health & Safety role within the construction industry
- Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and CDM Regulations
- Experience conducting site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks
- Confident communicator with the ability to influence and challenge unsafe practices
- Strong report writing and organisational skills
Desirable Qualifications
- NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety
- NEBOSH Diploma
- Chartered IOSH membership
- IEMA qualification
- SMSTS
- Scaffold Inspection certification

- Strong relationship-builder, particularly with Project Managers and site teams
- Proactive and solutions-focused approach
- Excellent time management with the ability to manage multiple sites
- Confident incident investigator with attention to detail
- IT-literate (MS Office and safety management systems)
