Location: Gloucester (office-based with occasional travel to project sites)

Our client is seeking a motivated and experienced HSQE Advisor to support a growing SHEQ team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a variety of high-profile projects, ensuring health, safety, quality, and environmental standards are embedded throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with pre-construction, design, estimating, and operational teams to identify and manage risk from the earliest project stages while promoting a strong culture of compliance, continuous improvement, and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Compliance
    • Support pre-construction teams in identifying and mitigating HSQE risks during planning and design phases.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations, and CDM 2015.
    • Work collaboratively with estimating, design, and project delivery teams to integrate HSQE requirements into project planning and execution.
    • Review and advise on Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments, and Construction Phase Plans.
    • Promote a proactive and consistent approach to health, safety, quality, and environmental management across all projects.
  • Training, Coaching & Culture
    • Provide guidance and support to Site Managers, Contracts Managers, and project teams on HSQE best practice.
    • Encourage a positive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and continuous engagement.
    • Deliver training and practical guidance on internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Systems, Reporting & Data Management
    • Utilise Microsoft 365 applications to support reporting, communication, and collaboration.
    • Assist teams in the effective use of HSQE management systems and digital platforms.
    • Collect, analyse, and present HSQE performance data to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Auditing & Continuous Improvement
    • Conduct internal audits across operational and support functions to assess compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Carry out site inspections and contribute to incident investigations, lessons learned reviews, and corrective action programmes.
    • Support sustainability initiatives by evaluating innovative products and practices that enhance environmental performance.
    • Represent the business at client meetings and industry forums when required.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in a Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental role within construction.
  • Strong understanding of construction-related health and safety legislation and best practice.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and identify potential HSQE risks during project planning stages.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, or equivalent health and safety qualification.

Desirable

  • IOSH membership or willingness to work towards professional membership.
  • Interest in sustainability, environmental performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working on premium retail, commercial fit‑out, or high‑specification interior projects.
