Ogletree Deakins has the opportunity for a Research Assistant to join the firm’s Knowledge & Innovation department. The position will work closely with the U.S. Research Services team and will support the U.S. attorneys and staff with their legal and business information needs. The position reports to the Research Services Operations Lead and K&I Belfast Lead.
Essential Functions
- Responds in an expeditious manner to document retrieval requests, including but not limited to newly filed complaints, case law, articles, dockets, and litigation documents.
- Establishes and maintains new case alerts and tracks for existing cases.
- Fields questions from attorneys and staff and escalates issues when necessary to the Research Services Operations Lead.
- Communicates with U.S. courts and court runner services.
- Assists Research & Knowledge Analysts with research requests from attorneys and staff.
- Supports Research Services Operations Lead and Digital Resources Lead with special projects.
- Attends Knowledge & Innovation and Research Services team meetings (Teams video conference).
- Keeps abreast of available research tools applicable to the position’s responsibilities and included in evaluation of research tools.
- Participates in professional development through internal and external programs.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of firm matters.
- Uses resources in compliance with firm’s policies.
- Models qualities and performance desired in firm employees, including attendance, professionalism, and quality work product.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 2 years of law firm library/research services experience preferred.
- Experience using request management systems, government websites, and news and research platforms.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Teams, and Excel.
- Possesses excellent information management, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to both detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently under time constraints.
- Team player, customer service focused, and adept at multi-tasking and prioritisation.
- Initiative and problem-solving abilities.
