Senior Editor in London

London Full-Time No working from home possible
Ogilvy Health UK

About the Role

Are you an experienced Senior Medical Editor looking to make an impact within a dynamic, close‑knit medical education team? Do you possess an eagle‑eyed attention to detail, a passion for scientific accuracy, and the agility to adapt within a fast‑paced agency setting? If so, we want to hear from you!

We are seeking a talented Senior Medical Editor to join our dedicated, highly collaborative editing team. In this role, you will be the final line of defense, ensuring that all scientific and educational content is accurate, clear, engaging, and fully aligned with client objectives, style guides and brand standards.

This is more than a copy‑editing role; you will act as a champion of quality, helping to streamline editorial processes and flexibly support our medical writers with high‑value tasks during varied workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Copy‑editing, proofreading and formatting complex scientific and medical education content across a wide range of channels and formats, including slide decks, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, advisory board reports and video content.
  • Data checking – challenge and verify scientific claims, figures and tables against primary source references to ensure accuracy.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration – partner closely with writers, account managers and creative teams to deliver high‑quality scientific communications on time and within scope.
  • Team development and mentorship – provide guidance, support and peer‑to‑peer mentoring to other team members, promoting a culture of continuous learning and high editorial standards.

About You

This is a specialist agency role requiring prior hands‑on experience in medical copy‑editing. This is not an administrative, journal production or commissioning editor role. We are looking for an active, agency‑experienced medical editor.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of medical editing experience within a medical communications (MedComms) or medical education (MedEd) agency setting.
  • Outstanding proofreading and copy‑editing skills with an impeccable grasp of medical terminology, AMA style and regulatory guidelines.
  • Data literacy – experience in data‑checking, referencing and supporting medical writing teams with scientific cross‑checking.
  • Agility and proactivity – high resilience, excellent time management and the ability to manage shifting workloads and deadlines typical of end‑of‑line agency workflows.
  • Communication and collaboration – high emotional intelligence and the ability to adapt your editing style to different therapeutic areas, client preferences and internal team dynamics.
  • Line management or mentoring experience.

Highly Desirable “Nice‑to‑Haves”

  • Veeva Vault proficiency – prior experience working with Veeva Vault or a similar client content‑management system for uploading, annotating and linking references.
  • Proven data‑checking experience – previous hands‑on experience thoroughly checking data and scientific statements against source materials.

How We’ll Support You

  • Generous annual leave – 25 days holiday plus your birthday off and a paid volunteering day. After 2 years of service you may purchase up to an additional 5 days per year.
  • Enhanced family support – premium enhanced parental leave packages.
  • Robust pension scheme – you pay 4 %, we pay 6 %. Following probation contributions are matched up to 10.5 % (up to 17.5 % total).
  • Health & wellness perks – choice of private medical cover (Bupa), dental cover or a monthly leisure allowance of £45 for physical or mental well‑being.
  • Employee support programmes – assistance via Telus and Unum’s Help @ Hand, offering specialist counseling, remote GP access and other health support.
  • Coaching and growth – free one‑to‑one professional and personal growth coaching provided online by Thrive Partners.
  • Learning and development – ongoing, comprehensive training opportunities tailored to your career pathway.
