Working as a mid-level fee earner in a team of fee earners, to provide technically sound legal advice on a range of issues relating to Cayman corporate law, whilst building and maintaining productive relationships with clients and intermediaries. Your role will include providing ongoing advice and advising on corporate transactions, M&A and restructurings and will specifically focus on Cayman law. We welcome applications from candidates with an interest in advising in the context of new and emerging technology subject matter, including digital assets and artificial intelligence (AI), but this is not mandatory. Please note: it is not essential that you have practised Cayman law previously as it is heavily based on English law.
Key Responsibilities
- Support senior fee earners by providing technically sound legal advice directly to clients with appropriate supervision.
- Build and maintain productive working relationships with clients; establish credibility and provide excellent client service.
- Produce fee estimates and quotations promptly.
- Ensure clients are fully informed as to the fees and disbursements that will be incurred on each matter and provide updates as required.
- Understand the full range of services offered by Ogier and seek opportunities to develop new client work.
- Deliver chargeable hours budget.
- Ensure timeliness of billing and debt collection in accordance with business standards.
- Coach and develop, in conjunction with seniors, the development of juniors.
- Ensure effective management of time, effort and resources in order to generate maximum efficiencies and maintain accurate time records at all times.
- Undertake project work as required, support and deliver on initiatives identified and designated from time to time by supervising attorneys and partners.
- Contribute to Knowledge Management (KM) information/system and ensure such contributions are accurate and current.
- Contribute to building a positive and inclusive culture in the London office by modelling Ogier’s values, and supporting local business development and brand activities, championing a client-centric approach aligned with our 2030 Vision.
- Build commercial awareness, knowledge and experience in practice area to the highest standards.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Qualified Lawyer, with 5 years' minimum PQE.
- Excellent academic background, including 2:1 at degree, plus Commendation/Distinction at LPC (or equivalent).
- Experience with a leading law firm (preferably at an offshore, US or Magic/Silver Circle firm) in the areas of general corporate and commercial work with exposure to downstream private equity transactions, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate advisory.
- Must have experience in leading on matters.
- Strong relationship management and client care skills.
- Good commercial awareness.
- Excellent drafting and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Promote teamwork and develop strong relationships with immediate team members.
- Be proactive in sharing knowledge and relevant new information with your immediate team in know-how sessions.
- Be proactive in ensuring all financial matters are timely and up-to-date.
- Begin to accurately assess fee estimates, work scopes and necessary assumptions for producing fee estimates and quotations.
- Ability to spot, identify and follow through business development opportunities.
- Build productive and strong relationships both internally and externally.
- Ability to delegate appropriate tasks to juniors.
- Assist with the coaching of bursary students and summer interns as and when appropriate.
