Ogibiotec is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic person to take ownership and leadership of all hosted infrastructure operations, design and security. The candidate will maintain stable, secure, scalable Azure environments while enabling the development team to focus solely on product delivery.

This role must absorb all infrastructure functions currently delivered by an external development team and replace them with in-house capability that can grow with this quickly-scaling company. Coverage includes future multi-territory expansion and handling time-zone-aligned support where required in the future.

Ogibiotec is a rapidly growing Scotland-based company specializing in the design and manufacture of small, modular bioreactors, alongside the development of intuitive web‐app–based software for their control. Driven by a mission to make bioreactors accessible to every microbiology lab, the company aims to revolutionize microbial culturing—a critical process underpinning microbiology and biotechnology. By automating routine and time‐consuming tasks, Ogibiotec's systems enable researchers to focus on more complex scientific questions, accelerating discovery and innovation.

The role would suit an engineer in the first few years of their career who wants to extend their knowledge of Azure cloud infrastructure. While we expect this candidate to have worked for a time supporting cloud infrastructure, we are open to candidates such as graduates who have demonstrated gaining this experience through other routes. A key attribute is ability and willingness to learn. Note that unfortunately we cannot sponsor visas or overseas remote workers. The successful candidate must have the legal right to work in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Design
    • Architect Azure hosting environments to meet reliability, security and scalability requirements.
    • Evaluate systems against performance, security and capacity standards.
    • Plan capacity and ensure infrastructure supports current and projected demand.
    • Design and prepare infrastructure for new international deployments.
    • Analyse cost and identify reductions without degrading service.
  • Infrastructure Operations
    • Produce routine and ad-hoc operational reporting on performance and environment health.
    • Deliver technical and administrative support for all live applications and cloud services.
    • Provision, configure, operate and optimise Azure infrastructure and virtual environments.
    • Maintain and support cloud networks and connectivity.
    • Deploy infrastructure in new territories, working with internal delivery teams on constraints such as data migration, data sovereignty and DR design.
  • Infrastructure Security Operations
    • Monitor threat intelligence and surface actionable security insights.
    • Manage and coordinate responses to security incidents.
    • Administer and maintain security controls and protective measures across all environments.
    • Manage identity, access and permissions across organisational systems.
  • Additional responsibilities
    • Security Testing
      • Identify, categorise and remediate infrastructure, system and application vulnerabilities.
      • Perform security control testing using attacker-technique emulation.
    • Data Management / DBA Functions
      • Install, configure, monitor and maintain databases and data stores.
      • Optimise database performance, availability and security.
      • Manage and optimise cloud-based storage aligned to business needs.

    Candidate Requirements

    • Infrastructure engineer earlier in their career who is willing to learn and develop, or a candidate who has demonstrable skills in Azure cloud infrastructure through other routes.
    • Ability to grow with the company and take on more technical leadership in time.
    • Experience with Azure infrastructure, both architecturally and operationally.
    • Strong capability across networking, identity, monitoring, security operations and automation.
    • Competent with incident response, vulnerability management and secure configuration.
    • Able to design and deploy infrastructure across multiple geographies and tenants.
    • Capable of handling DBA‐related duties for operational systems.
    • Must have the right to work in the UK.

    What we offer:

    • Holiday entitlement of 25 days pro rata per annum, exclusive of Bank Holidays.
