The Role
Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks on structural steel, pipework, and equipment onboard a semi-submersible drilling unit. Ensure all welding operations comply with project specifications, class requirements, and offshore safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication activities on rig structures, pipework, brackets, supports, and marine equipment as per project drawings and specifications.
- Execute repairs and modifications on topside structures, drilling equipment, ballast tanks, bulkheads, and other critical areas.
- Carry out welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, and alloy materials.
- Read and interpret structural and piping isometric drawings, P&IDs, and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Ensure welds are performed to DNV, ABS, API, and client specifications, adhering to approved welding procedures and standards.
- Conduct visual inspection of completed welds and assist in NDT preparation.
- Maintain welding equipment, consumables, and tools, ensuring safe operation and proper storage.
- Support rig maintenance and fabrication activities.
- Participate in rig safety programs, Toolbox Talks, JSA preparations, and adhere to all Permit-to-Work (PTW) processes.
- Assist in fabrication and installation of handrails, deck extensions, skids, and temporary structures as required.
- Work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and harsh offshore environments following all safety protocols.
