Ofqual is the independent qualifications regulator for England. We currently regulate 200+ awarding organisations, and approx. 11,600 certified qualifications. These include GCSEs, AS and A levels, and a broad range of vocational and technical qualifications.
The use of technology in qualifications and assessment creates opportunities for innovation alongside new risks to standards and public confidence. We are looking for an exceptional senior leader to help Ofqual navigate this changing landscape and shape how regulation responds.
In this high-profile role, you will lead Ofqual's approach to assessment integrity, AI and innovation, providing strategic advice to the Executive and Board, and influencing thinking across government and the qualifications sector. You will be responsible for identifying and responding to emerging risks and opportunities, shaping regulatory approaches that balance innovation with fairness and standards, and leading cross-organisational work to deliver system-wide impact.
We are looking for someone with strong strategic judgement, experience of operating in complex and highly scrutinised environments, and a proven ability to influence at senior levels. You will combine an understanding of technology and innovation with the ability to make difficult decisions, manage competing priorities, and communicate complex issues clearly and confidently.
