Successful candidates may be based in any of our office locations – Cardiff, Glasgow, or London, we are especially welcoming applications from people based in Cardiff and Glasgow. Hybrid working – on average, currently one day per week in the office, or approximately 20% of the month.
Data is the keystone of modern energy regulation, and Ofgem is looking for a Metadata Management Specialist to build out our energy data and take our capabilities to the next level. Influencing how data standards are applied in practice, you’ll help embed consistent approaches that improve discoverability, integration and governance. Your contribution will support clarity in complex data environments and help maintain the integrity of energy market information as expectations around transparency and compliance continue to grow.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update existing metadata records, including ensuring accurate links to associated templates.
- Catalogue ad hoc data collections, including those not yet formally modelled.
- Create and assign unique identifiers (IDs) and tags to templates for classification and traceability.
- Design and implement a sustainable process for ongoing metadata maintenance.
- Develop and maintain an update and approval process for managing the master contact list.
- Collaborate with business units to align operational data needs with governance and metadata frameworks.
- Design, implement, and maintain metadata standards and repositories to support data discoverability and interoperability.
- Support the development of data governance policies, including stewardship and ownership.
- Manage data domains, workflows, and governance artefacts, ensuring consistency across systems.
- Facilitate data quality initiatives, including issue resolution and root cause analysis.
- Deliver training and guidance on metadata and governance principles to business users.
Key Outputs and Deliverables
- A suite of fully maintained and accurate metadata repositories with appropriate linkages to operational and archival data stores.
- A comprehensive catalogue of recurring and ad hoc data collections, including those not formally modelled.
- A consistent and traceable ID and tagging system for data collection artifacts and metadata items.
- A documented and operational process for metadata maintenance and governance.
- Metadata fields and structures aligned with optimised processes and technology platforms and applications.
- A cross-referenced metadata catalogue with applied IDs/tags for improved discoverability.
- Documented data governance policies and stewardship models supported by appropriate metadata structures.
- Training materials and records of guidance delivered to business users.
Required Experience
- Proven experience in metadata management, data cataloguing, information architecture and information management.
- Demonstrated familiarity with data governance principles and metadata standards (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).
- Experience in designing and implementing metadata processes and workflows.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially when working across teams.
