Britain’s energy infrastructure is under increasing pressure as we transition to a net-zero energy system, making the health and resilience of electrical assets more critical than ever. Ofgem is seeking an Electrical Assets Specialist (Senior Specialist Engineer) to play a leading role in strengthening regulatory assurance and oversight of asset health across the energy sector.

Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. We’re at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving toward Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers, especially vulnerable people. We’re offering a permanent opportunity within our newly established Asset Health & Network Resilience team, where you will contribute to the creation of a new Asset Health Inspectorate. Providing engineering insight and oversight for licensed energy companies, you will support secure, resilient infrastructure that delivers for consumers.

Operating as a senior engineering specialist within Ofgem, you’ll support informed decision-making at senior levels, helping ensure that regulatory approaches are underpinned by strong engineering judgement and a clear understanding of risk, resilience and long-term system needs. You’ll contribute to the development of frameworks and approaches that strengthen oversight of energy infrastructure across the sector and engage with colleagues and external stakeholders to support consistent, proportionate and future-focused assurance that helps protect consumers and support a secure transition to net zero.

We’re looking for a highly experienced specialist engineer with deep technical expertise in electrical asset health, lifecycle management and network resilience within the regulated electricity sector. You’ll be confident operating in complex organisational settings, influencing senior stakeholders and translating complex technical issues into clear, accessible advice for non-technical audiences. Strong professional judgement, credibility and a commitment to inclusive leadership will be key to your success.

In return, you’ll join a purpose-driven organisation playing a vital role in supporting a secure, affordable and sustainable energy system. You’ll discover meaningful professional development, long-term career prospects and a positive work/life balance facilitated through hybrid and flexible working.

We have a critical purpose to ensure Britain’s energy infrastructure is safe, resilient and fit for a net-zero future. Join us and help shape the engineering assurance that underpins the energy system of tomorrow.
