Ofgem is Great Britain’s independent energy regulator. We’re at the forefront of change across the energy sector, driving toward Net Zero whilst protecting energy consumers, especially vulnerable people. We’re offering a permanent opportunity where you’ll help ensure we have the technical capability to regulate effectively, whilst supporting work across major infrastructure programmes. You’ll provide high-quality engineering analysis and insight, help underpin our approach to a range of industry-focused areas, and ensure robust delivery of complex projects.
You’ll join the Major Projects team, a multidisciplinary group known for its collaborative approach and strong technical expertise and work closely with network companies, technical advisers and a wide range of stakeholders. Strengthening technical capability, you’ll provide engineering insight that underpins regulatory decision-making across major infrastructure programmes. You’ll ensure complex infrastructure projects are regulated effectively, and decisions are informed by sound engineering judgement, and projects are delivered safely, represent value for money for consumers, and support long-term system resilience.
This role would also embrace candidates who need a flexible / family friendly working pattern. We’re looking for an experienced engineer with a background in major energy infrastructure, likely gained within utilities or similarly complex environments. Alongside your engineering qualifications, you’ll bring strong analytical capability, alongside the ability to explain complex technical issues clearly to non-technical audiences.
In return, you’ll discover a supportive and inclusive working environment, flexible working arrangements and a strong focus on work-life balance and continuous learning. We’ve created a workplace where people can thrive, including STEM returners, and our culture is grounded in public service values, integrity and a shared commitment to driving positive change across the energy sector. We have a critical purpose to ensure the UK’s energy infrastructure is safe, resilient and fit for the future.
