We are excited to be recruiting four Level 3 Multi-skilled Technician Apprentices to join our Operations team at the ORE Catapult Blyth site. This is a hands-on engineering apprenticeship where you'll learn by doing – supporting the maintenance, installation and improvement of cutting-edge equipment used to develop and test offshore renewable energy technology.
Over the programme you'll build strong foundations in mechanical and electrical engineering, gain recognised qualifications and work alongside experienced technicians and engineers in a supportive, safety-first environment.
About Us
At ORE Catapult, we help accelerate the UK's offshore renewable energy sector by developing and delivering innovative technology solutions – turning research and engineering into real-world impact. Based at our Blyth site, you'll be part of a team working in one of the world's most comprehensive open-access test and research environments, supporting the scale-up of offshore renewable energy technologies.
The apprenticeship is structured to help you succeed: you'll build core skills across both mechanical and electrical disciplines during the first two years, with the opportunity to specialise in year three.
What You Will Be Doing
You’ll join a structured apprenticeship programme that combines hands-on workplace learning with formal training and assessments, leading to recognised engineering qualifications. In the role, you’ll develop practical experience maintaining, fault-finding and repairing the mechanical and electrical systems that support our Technology Development Centre (TDC), while contributing to planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and continuous improvement activities.
Safety will always come first – you’ll work to safe systems of work, raise concerns when something doesn’t look right, and take pride in delivering work to high quality standards. Alongside your technical development, you’ll build strong professional skills, working respectfully with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders, communicating clearly and managing your time effectively.
You’ll bring a positive attitude, curiosity and a willingness to learn – asking questions, responding to feedback and taking ownership of your development by tracking progress against apprenticeship competencies and deadlines. Throughout, you’ll represent ORE Catapult’s values, demonstrating reliability, organisation and a genuine commitment to safety, respect and continuous improvement.
What You Will Learn
You’ll follow a structured apprenticeship programme, attending college/training and completing coursework and practical assessments alongside hands-on learning at our Blyth site. Working with experienced engineers and technicians, you’ll build your mechanical and electrical skills while supporting planned preventative maintenance and assisting with reactive repairs on plant, machinery and site equipment.
You will learn to carry out inspections, fault-find and diagnose issues, interpret drawings and manuals, and keep accurate maintenance records. As your confidence grows, you’ll support installation, modification and commissioning activities and contribute to improvement work that boosts reliability, efficiency and safety – always working to our health and safety procedures, safe systems of work, and taking part in toolbox talks and risk assessments.
