About the Opportunity
We are seeking an Operations Director to lead operational excellence across one of the UK’s most influential clean energy and offshore renewable innovation organisations. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, this is a strategic leadership role with responsibility for delivering world-class testing, validation, and capital investment programmes, while acting as a key regional leader driving clean energy growth in the North East. This is a rare opportunity to combine operational leadership, innovation, and regional impact—helping shape the UK’s transition to Net Zero energy.
The Role
- Lead operations across a national portfolio of testing and innovation assets
- Drive operational excellence, safety, and performance across complex programmes
- Oversee major CAPEX investment projects and infrastructure development
- Shape long-term asset strategy and utilisation aligned to industry needs
- Serve as Head of Place for Blyth, leading regional strategy and engagement
- Build strong partnerships with government, academia, and industry leaders
- Contribute at Executive Team level, influencing organisational strategy
- Drive a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Key Responsibilities
- Full accountability for operational performance, safety, and risk management
- Lead strategic development of testing and validation capabilities
- Oversee large-scale capital programmes from concept to delivery
- Monitor industry trends and global innovation landscapes
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders including:
- Government bodies and regional authorities
- OEMs and supply chain partners
- Universities and research organisations
- Represent the organisation at regional, national, and industry forums
- Ensure alignment between commercial, technical, and operational objectives
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a strategic, collaborative, and results-driven leader with:
- Proven leadership experience in energy, engineering, innovation, or research environments
- Strong track record managing complex operations, large teams, and high-value assets
- Experience delivering major capital projects and programmes
- Ability to influence at Board and senior stakeholder level
- Experience working with OEMs, funding bodies, and public-private partnerships
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Demonstrated ability to balance strategic vision with operational delivery
