Projects are managed from initial concept and technical design through manufacture and installation. We are looking for a practical, detail-focused Design Technician to join our team and produce accurate technical designs that can be efficiently manufactured within our factory. Role Overview The Design Technician will turn approved concepts, specifications and site information into accurate 3D models, manufacturing drawings and supporting technical information. Working mainly in SolidWorks, you will collaborate with the design, production, project management and installation teams to ensure products are functional, manufacturable and meet customer requirements. The role would suit someone with strong CAD skills and a practical understanding of how furniture and products are manufactured and assembled. Main Responsibilities * Produce accurate 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks. * Develop bespoke furniture from client briefs, specifications, approved concepts and site-survey information. * Prepare drawings and technical information for manufacture, assembly and installation. * Ensure designs are suitable for available machinery, materials and manufacturing methods. * Check designs for accuracy, functionality, buildability and compliance with specifications. * Maintain accurate drawing revisions, files and design records. * Liaise with production, project management and installation teams to resolve technical queries. * Identify potential design, manufacturing or installation issues and propose practical solutions. * Attend design reviews, project meetings, site surveys or installation visits when required. * Work to agreed project programmes and communicate any issues that may affect deadlines. Essential Skills and Experience * Experience using SolidWorks or a comparable 3D CAD package. * Ability to produce clear and accurate manufacturing and assembly drawings. * Good understanding of dimensions, tolerances, materials, fixings and manufacturing methods. * Strong spatial awareness and attention to detail. * Practical problem-solving skills. * Ability to interpret design briefs, specifications and site information. * Good organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Good written, verbal and general IT skills. Desirable Skills and Experience * Experience within furniture, joinery, cabinetry, interior fit-out or a related manufacturing environment. * Experience designing products for CNC or automated manufacturing. * Knowledge of sheet materials, timber products, laminates, solid surfaces, metalwork, glass and hardware. * Understanding of design for manufacture and assembly. * Experience working from site surveys or architectural drawings. * Relevant qualification in product design, furniture design, engineering, CAD or a related subject.
