My client is currently looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team. This is an opportunity to work within a highly technical environment supporting bespoke engineering projects and developing design solutions from concept through to manufacture and installation.
The role will focus on carrying out all aspects of mechanical design, producing accurate and compliant design outputs including 3D models, General Arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, Bills of Materials and as-built documentation in line with customer specifications and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce designs that comply with product assurance requirements while considering the full product lifecycle, including material limitations, manufacturability, installation and operational requirements.
- Eliminate health and safety risks from designs in line with CDM regulations.
- Produce Designer Risk Assessments and identify mitigation measures where required.
- Create and develop 3D models using Autodesk Inventor.
- Produce 2D drawings from 3D models for customer approval and manufacturing purposes in line with Engineering Handbook requirements and BS8888 standards.
- Ensure all drawings, models and documentation are accurate and complete prior to release for checking.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to departmental development.
- Support R&D activities and contribute to innovative engineering solutions.
- Liaise with internal teams and customers where required.
- Ensure full compliance with ISO 9001 engineering procedures.
Requirements:
Essential: Minimum HND in Engineering with at least 5 years experience in industrial sheet steel/fabrication environments OR Degree qualified (BEng Hons preferred Mechanical Engineering) with at least 3 years experience in industrial sheet steel/fabrication environments.
Additionally:
- Strong experience using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD and Autodesk Vault.
- Understanding of steel manufacturing techniques and limitations including press brake processes.
- Understanding of load paths, failure modes and operating limits of steel structures and components.
- Strong knowledge of BS8888 engineering drawing standards.
- Ability to produce Designer Risk Assessments.
- Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong focus on quality, accuracy and timely delivery.
- Flexibility to support project deadlines where required.
