We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Technician to join my clients Electronics Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for the assembly, wiring, testing, and inspection of electrical wiring looms, harnesses, and control panels in accordance with engineering drawings, wiring schedules, and quality standards. This role requires a high level of precision, technical understanding, and workmanship, ensuring all assemblies meet required electrical, mechanical, and quality specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out hands-on wiring and assembly of electronic equipment and control panels.
- Build wiring harnesses and looms from wiring schedules and electrical schematics.
- Install electronic and electro-mechanical components in accordance with mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Ensure wiring looms and associated cabling are assembled and installed to required quality standards.
- Conduct quality checks and inspections, recording findings for completed wiring assemblies.
- Perform testing of completed wiring and sub-assemblies, identifying faults and troubleshooting where necessary.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Use electrical testing equipment including digital multimeters and other diagnostic tools.
- Maintain high accuracy and attention to detail to ensure compliance with manufacturing and quality requirements.
Key Competencies and Skills
- Experience with a wide range of connectors and cable types including commercial and military-grade connectors.
- Ability to prepare cables and wires for termination including stripping, crimping and soldering.
- Ability to solder connectors and cabling to a high standard.
- Experience operating hand crimp tools and performing pull testing on crimped terminals.
- Familiarity with electrical and electronic components including assembly of through-hole PCB assemblies (THT).
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings, wiring schedules and electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of wire gauges, cable types and identification methods.
- Experience with wire numbering, labelling and identification systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and workmanship.
Desirable Experience (Not Essential)
- Experience wiring looms for military or defence equipment.
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification (Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies).
- IPC J-STD-001 certification (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies).
