A varied and fast-moving new role has been created in the constituency office of Josh Newbury, the MP for Cannock Chase in Staffordshire. Josh is looking for a Constituency Assistant to work 24 hours a week, based in his Hednesford office with some hybrid working.

At the heart of the role is outreach and event planning. Josh foresees the holder of this role taking the lead on organising events such as coffee mornings, surgeries, street stalls, and non-party political campaign activities. This will include heading up community engagement for a recently awarded Pride in Place project on behalf of Josh and his team.

Building and maintaining links with a range of local stakeholders, including businesses, charities, schools, community groups and councillors, will also be key to this role. In this role, no two weeks will look the same as the Constituency Assistant will support fellow members of the team with both casework and communications.

Casework support could include accompanying Josh to weekly surgeries to brief him on cases, take notes and feed back to colleagues, as well as taking ownership of some cases, with appropriate guidance and supervision. Communications support could include planning and drafting social media content as well as taking photos and videos when accompanying Josh on constituency visits and events. Again, guidance and support within the team will be provided.

Josh also foresees the Constituency Assistant taking the lead on graphic design within his team, for which extensive training will be provided if needed. In addition, the role holder may carry out some general administrative tasks in the constituency office under the direction of the Office Manager, who will act as the Constituency Assistant’s line manager.

As with all roles in Josh’s team, a significant emphasis will be placed on training to enhance the role holder’s skillset, both for this role and general personal development.
