An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a Trust Manager to join the award-winning Private Wealth department of a highly respected national law firm. Recognised by both Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, the team advises high-net-worth individuals, families, trustees, entrepreneurs, and business owners on a broad range of trust, tax, estate, and succession planning matters.
This is a rare opportunity to join a growing and ambitious team where you will work closely with Partners and senior specialists on complex and rewarding client work, while playing a key role in the ongoing development of the trust function. The role offers a blend of technical trust administration, tax compliance, client relationship management, and strategic succession planning advice, making it ideal for someone looking to take ownership of a varied portfolio and further establish themselves as a trusted adviser within the Private Wealth sector.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing a portfolio of trusts and estates on behalf of high-net-worth clients and trustees
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, beneficiaries, accountants, financial advisers, and investment managers
- Identifying and progressing tax planning and succession planning opportunities where appropriate
- Overseeing the preparation and review of trust accounts and trust tax returns, including inheritance tax reporting
- Calculating trustee liabilities relating to Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, and Income Tax
- Liaising with HMRC and ensuring compliance with all reporting obligations
- Preparing for and attending trustees' meetings and maintaining detailed records and minutes
- Managing trust distributions, both capital and discretionary income payments
- Reviewing trust deeds, legal documentation, and investment policy statements
- Supporting Partners with client management, technical matters, and ongoing business development initiatives
The successful candidate will possess:
- Significant experience in trust administration and trust taxation
- Strong technical knowledge of trusts, estates, inheritance tax, capital gains tax, and income tax
- Experience preparing and reviewing trust accounts and trust tax returns
- Excellent client relationship management and communication skills
- Strong organisational ability and meticulous attention to detail
- A proactive and commercial approach to client service
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively
STEP qualification (Diploma level) or an equivalent professional tax qualification would be highly desirable, although substantial practical experience will be equally valued.
