We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Accountant to join a well-established and highly respected organisation based in South Shields. This is an urgent requirement for someone who is available immediately or can start at very short notice. The initial assignment is expected to last approximately 3 months, with the possibility of an extension depending on business requirements.
About the Role
Working as part of a busy commercial finance team, you will provide accounting support across the business and assist with the day-to-day financial operations of the division. A key focus of the role will be the reconciliation of approximately 100 accounts, so strong reconciliation experience, attention to detail and the ability to manage a high-volume workload are essential. You will also support a range of accounting activities, including month-end processes, financial analysis, journals and management reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the senior finance team with day-to-day accounting activities
- Reconciling approximately 100 accounts
- Completing high-volume account reconciliations accurately and within required deadlines
- Investigating discrepancies, identifying variances and resolving outstanding items
- Reviewing transactions and ensuring balances are accurate
- Maintaining clear and accurate reconciliation records
- Escalating complex or unusual issues where required
- Reviewing financial information and identifying anomalies
- Supporting the wider finance team with accounting queries
- Assisting with reporting and ad-hoc finance tasks
- Ensuring financial information is accurate, complete and up to date
About You
We are looking for an organised, commercially minded and detail-focused finance professional who can hit the ground running. Ideally, you will have previous experience within an accounting or finance environment and be confident working with financial information, reconciliations and deadlines.
You should have:
- Previous accounting or finance experience
- Strong reconciliation and analytical skills
- Good understanding of accounting principles
- Strong attention to detail
- Good Excel skills
- Ability to investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload and meet deadlines
- Excellent organisation and time-management skills
Qualifications
- AAT is ideally preferred, either qualified or currently studying
- Candidates working towards ACA, ACCA, CIMA or another relevant accounting qualification may also be considered
- Relevant practical accounting experience will be considered alongside formal qualifications
