Job Title: Production Supervisor

Location: Yeovil, Somerset

Salary: Dependant on experience to be discussed on application

Hours: 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am to 4.30pm on Friday.

The Role

Working closely with the Operations Manager and fellow Production Supervisors, you'll play a key role in driving performance, motivating teams, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of production operations.

Leading your own team, you'll be responsible for coordinating workloads, developing employee performance, and creating a positive, high-performing culture. You'll ensure production targets are met while maintaining the highest standards of quality, health & safety, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility, ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
  • Investigate workplace, quality, and operational issues, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
  • Maintain risk assessments, safe systems of work, and key health & safety documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Sales, Technical, Quality, and Maintenance teams to support customer requirements and resolve issues.
  • Lead team briefings, communicating business priorities, performance expectations, and objectives.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily production activities to ensure efficient, on-time delivery of customer orders.
  • Partner with the Operations Manager to prioritise workloads, launch production orders, and maximise efficiency.
  • Manage labour and production resources to meet customer demand and lead-time requirements.
  • Monitor productivity, quality, and performance, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure quality processes are followed, including the management of non-conforming or damaged products.
  • Support the development and improvement of production processes, promoting best practices throughout the operation.
  • Attend production meetings, taking ownership of actions and delivering agreed objectives.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members through training, performance reviews, and annual appraisals.
  • Manage attendance, conduct, wellbeing, and performance in line with company policies.
  • Undertake additional projects and responsibilities as required to support business objectives.

Skills | Experience | Qualifications

  • Proven supervisory or management experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach and develop a team.
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to liaise effectively across multiple departments.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and best practice within a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience planning workloads, allocating resources and meeting production targets and deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on quality, efficiency and continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
  • Hands-on, practical approach with experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • CMI Level 3, ILM Level 3, or an equivalent Team Leader qualification.
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
  • Experience using production planning systems.
  • Ability to supervise teams, manage performance and support employee development.
  • Experience conducting appraisals, training and performance management activities.
