School Business Manager in Northampton

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist education provider for an experienced and driven Business Manager to join the Senior Leadership Team. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the operational functions of the school, including finance, HR, compliance, health & safety, facilities, and administration. Working closely with the Headteacher, you will help ensure the school runs efficiently and effectively, enabling educational staff to focus on delivering outstanding outcomes for pupils.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the school's business operations, including finance, HR, administration, compliance and facilities.
• Line manage administrative and maintenance teams, supporting recruitment, development and performance management.
• Support budget planning, financial monitoring and procurement activities to ensure value for money.
• Work closely with finance colleagues to manage budgets, expenditure and supplier relationships.
• Oversee payroll administration and support HR processes in line with employment legislation.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety, safeguarding, data protection and statutory requirements.
• Manage risk registers, KPI reporting and quality assurance processes.
• Oversee maintenance, security and operational effectiveness across the school site.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support the delivery of strategic objectives.
• Ensure policies, procedures and operational standards are consistently implemented and maintained.

What We're Looking For

You will be an organised and proactive leader with excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of business operations. You'll be comfortable balancing strategic priorities with day-to-day operational management, while building positive relationships with staff and stakeholders. Requirements include:

• Previous leadership or management experience within education or a comparable environment.
• Experience managing budgets, resources and operational processes.
• Knowledge of HR practices, compliance and health & safety requirements.
• Experience leading and developing teams.
• Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• GCSE Mathematics and English.
• Strong IT skills and confidence using business and financial systems.

Desirable

• Degree in Business Management, Finance or a related subject.
• School Business Management qualification (Level 4 or above).
• Experience supporting school improvement programmes.
• Knowledge of educational compliance and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience building partnerships with external organisations and stakeholders.
