About the Role
The Graduate Design Engineer programme is designed as a launchpad for graduates and early‑career candidates. Over the course of 12 months, successful candidates will rotate through the entire design lifecycle under close mentorship, gradually building towards independent competence as a Designer. This structured programme aligns with university leaving dates and concludes with a qualifying exam; satisfactory completion and a pass are essential to progress to a Designer role.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret fire strategies and customer specifications into working system designs, with support from senior team members.
- Write comprehensive technical design documentation.
- Produce and edit CAD drawings using AutoCAD.
- Conduct design calculations under supervision to validate designs.
- Collaborate effectively with senior designers, engineers, and clients.
- Attend design and project handover meetings to ensure seamless transitions.
- Support the preparation of Operation & Maintenance (O&M) manuals and project closeout documentation.
Requirements - Essential
- A degree or Level 3+ qualification in Engineering, Building Services, Physics, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong, clear, and professional technical communication skills.
- Excellent time management abilities and capacity to juggle multiple live projects.
- A proactive team player with a 'get it done' mindset.
- Confidence in using Microsoft Office and Windows OS.
Requirements - Desirable
- Prior knowledge of smoke control systems (mechanical or natural) and ventilation.
- Familiarity with fire detection and alarm systems.
- Exposure to HVAC or electrical building services.
