An established and growing construction business is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper / Management Accountant to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function.
This is a varied and hands-on role offering responsibility across bookkeeping, management reporting, payroll, budgeting and financial control.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities and maintain accurate financial records.
- Process transactions using accounting software including Quick Books, Xero and Sage.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Produce year-end accounts and management information.
- Manage payroll processing and associated administration.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns.
- Complete bank reconciliations and cash flow monitoring.
- Monitor job costing and project expenditure.
- Manage credit control and debtor administration.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Prepare supplier and subcontractor payment schedules.
- Manage submissions and subcontractor records.
- Support continuous improvement of finance systems and processes.
- Provide ad hoc financial support and reporting as required.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Previous experience within the construction sector is highly desirable.
- Experience producing management accounts.
- Strong payroll, VAT and bank reconciliation experience.
- Knowledge subcontractor payments.
- Experience with accounting systems such as Quick Books, Xero and Sage.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Skills
- AAT qualified, studying towards a professional qualification, or qualified by experience.
- Experience within project-based or subcontractor-led environments.
- Knowledge of job costing and project profitability reporting.
- Experience implementing finance process improvements.
- Strong Excel and reporting skills.
