Take Ownership of the Past. Lead the Future.

We are hiring a PHP Developer to take the reins of our bespoke ERP system — a critical platform that underpins our operations — and to lead the development of its modern successor. This is a rare opportunity to work with a mature, custom-built PHP codebase, understand its inner workings, and maintain it with care. But more importantly, you will be at the forefront of a multi-year transformation, helping to design and build a brand-new workforce management system from the ground up.

If you are a developer who thrives on understanding complex systems and wants to leave a lasting mark by building something better — this is your chance.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with our senior developer and wider IT team to understand, maintain and develop our bespoke PHP ERP system, ensuring stability and compatibility.
  • Lead the rebuild: bring all your expertise to the table to help design, architect, develop and implement a new ERP system using modern technologies.
  • Use Git for source control and follow best practices for deployment and documentation.
  • Deliver updates, bug fixes, and new features in a controlled and well-documented manner.
  • Engage with non-technical colleagues to gather requirements and translate feedback into technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide technical support when needed.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong experience with bespoke PHP development (without frameworks).
  • Proven ability to understand and work with legacy codebases.
  • Experience working with major software migrations and modernisations.
  • Familiarity with LAMP stack deployment and server configurations.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with a range of PHP frameworks and libraries.
  • Familiarity with Azure and serverless architecture.
  • Working knowledge of RESTful APIs and web services.

What We Offer

  • Fully remote working, with regular (~ once a month) on-site meetings at our offices in London, Birmingham or Edinburgh.
  • 21 days holiday, plus up to 5 additional days based on length of service.
  • Personal training and development allowance.
  • Access to a profit- and performance-based bonus scheme after probation.

How to Apply

If you are excited by the challenge of mastering a legacy system and leading its evolution, we would love to hear from you. Please send us:

  • Your CV
  • Cover letter giving us some insight into your background and what attracted you to this role
  • A link to your public code repository (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, etc.) or examples of previous work you are particularly proud of

We are especially interested in seeing how you have approached real-world problems, worked with legacy systems, or contributed to modernisation projects. This role is open only to applicants who have a right to work in the UK and are permanently based in the UK. This role does not offer sponsorship or employment outside the UK.
