Overview

Volunteer Peer Navigator roles at OTR in Yate from September 2025. The Yate drop-in Hub operates once per week, meeting and talking with young people ages 11-25 in a safe, welcoming environment. Part of the role is sharing information about OTR services and supporting young people who use the Hubs as a social space.

All volunteers are supported by our Engagement Workers and other OTR staff and have the opportunity to lead in a certain area (for example cooking or creative drop-in).

We welcome applications from all young people aged 18-25. No experience required other than wanting to help others, develop new skills and be part of a community.

Responsibilities

  • Volunteer as a Peer Navigator to help staff the Yate drop-in Hubs in a safe, welcoming, and fun environment.
  • Meet and talk with young people aged 11-25, share information about OTR services, and support regular users of the Hubs.
  • Contribute to leading a focus area (for example cooking, creative drop-in) as appropriate and supported by staff.
  • Work with Engagement Workers and other OTR staff to ensure a positive experience for attendees.

Requirements and Application

  • Age 18-25; no previous experience required beyond a willingness to help others, develop new skills, and be part of a community.

Safeguarding

OTR is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All roles involving contact with young people will be subject to robust pre-employment checks, including:

  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check – OTR will cover the cost if you do not already have a DBS certificate
  • References from recent employers or educators
  • Employment and education history to create a timeline of activity

Where applicable, overseas criminal record checks will also be required.
