OEG is seeking a Balance of Plant (BOP) Competent Technician to join its team at their Hunmanby, United Kingdom office. This role involves offshore and onshore work as required by the project. The role is responsible for the safe execution and support of Balance of Plant activities across offshore wind projects.

The Balance of Plant (BOP) Competent Technician is responsible for the safe execution and support of Balance of Plant activities across offshore wind projects. The role focuses on mechanical, structural, and auxiliary systems and provides competent technical support during construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance phases.

The BOP Competent Technician operates within defined procedures, task instructions, and project controls, ensuring all activities are carried out in compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements. The role supports multidisciplinary offshore teams and interfaces with OEMs, contractors, and client representatives as required, within the boundaries of assigned scope and authorisation. This role does not confer electrical authorisation or independent system control unless explicitly appointed and authorised under project-specific arrangements.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities
  • Balance of Plant Activities: Execute and support Balance of Plant activities in accordance with project procedures, task instructions, and approved methods of work. Carry out inspection, installation support, maintenance, and preservation activities on BOP systems, including mechanical, structural, and auxiliary systems. Identify defects, non-conformances, or damage to BOP systems and support corrective actions in line with project processes.
  • Technical Support and Interface: Provide competent technical support to offshore operations and project teams within the defined BOP scope. Interface effectively with other disciplines, including electrical, commissioning, and OEM teams, to support coordinated offshore activities. Support preparation and readiness activities for construction, commissioning, and handover phases, where instructed.
  • Health, Safety, Quality and Environment (HSEQ): Work in full compliance with project HSEQ requirements, statutory regulations, and company policies. Participate in toolbox talks, risk assessments, and method statement reviews relevant to assigned tasks. Actively identify and report hazards, near-misses, and unsafe conditions, and intervene where unsafe acts are observed. Promote a positive safety culture and lead by example in offshore environments.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Accurately complete work records, inspection reports, checklists, and defect reports in a timely manner. Provide clear and timely feedback to supervisors and project management on task progress, constraints, and issues. Support documentation and close-out activities associated with project handover.
  • Tools, Equipment and Systems: Use tools, equipment, and plant safely and in accordance with training, procedures, and manufacturer guidance. Carry out pre-use checks and report defects or issues with tools, equipment, or safety systems. Support the use of specialist equipment where trained and authorised.
QHSE responsibilities

To have a general understanding of the areas of our QHSE Management System and OEG’s QHSE aims and objectives that are relevant to the role. Comply with the requirements of OEG Energy Group Policies and the responsibilities within the wider QHSE Management System. Promoting:

  • environmental sustainability and energy efficiency whilst minimising our environmental impacts and preventing pollution.
  • a quality culture that brings value to our business, our customers and other interested parties ensuring quality issues and opportunities for improvement are identified and implemented.
Skills and experiences
  • Demonstrable experience working in offshore or similarly regulated environments (e.g. offshore wind, oil & gas, marine construction).
  • Proven competence in Balance of Plant activities, including mechanical, structural, and auxiliary systems.
  • Good understanding of offshore safe systems of work, including permits, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong awareness of health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
  • Experience on offshore wind projects during construction, commissioning, or operations phases.
  • Familiarity with access systems, secondary steel, and temporary works.
  • Experience interfacing with OEMs, contractors, and client representatives.
  • Experience with defect identification and close-out processes.
Qualifications
  • Valid offshore Medical Certification and Chester Step Test appropriate to the work environment.
  • GWO Offshore Survival and Safety Training in line with project and regulatory requirements.
  • GWO Advanced Rescue Training, appropriate to assigned tasks.
