Role Purpose

The Offshore Wind Service Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and high‑quality maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of offshore wind turbines. The role ensures maximum turbine availability, supports safe operations at sea, and contributes to the reliable generation of renewable energy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operations & Maintenance
    • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on offshore wind turbines, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
    • Perform corrective maintenance and troubleshooting to identify faults and restore turbine functionality.
    • Conduct routine inspections of turbine components, offshore substation systems, and balance‑of‑plant equipment.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Maintain strict compliance with all offshore safety procedures, including Work at Height, LOLER, confined space, and marine transfer protocols.
    • Participate in safety drills, toolbox talks, and risk assessments (RAMS).
    • Ensure accurate reporting of incidents, near misses, and hazards.
  • Technical Diagnostics
    • Use SCADA systems, diagnostic tools, and manufacturer software to analyse turbine performance and identify technical issues.
    • Document faults and root causes and recommend long‑term corrective actions.
    • Provide feedback to engineering teams to improve service strategies and component reliability.
  • Offshore Logistics & Coordination
    • Coordinate daily activities with vessel crews, control rooms, marine coordinators, and site supervisors.
    • Manage offshore tools, spares, lifting equipment, and personal protective equipment to required standards.
    • Support the commissioning of new turbines when required.
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Complete service reports, maintenance logs, and defect records accurately and on time.
    • Maintain technical records in line with OEM and regulatory requirements.
    • Use digital tools and handheld devices to update job status and component traceability.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Technical Skills
    • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
    • Experience using diagnostic software and SCADA monitoring tools.
    • Ability to read technical drawings and interpret maintenance manuals.
  • Essential Qualifications
    • Formal qualification in electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical engineering (e.g., NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
    • Offshore training to GWO standards:
      • Working at Height
      • Sea Survival
      • Manual Handling
      • Fire Awareness
      • First Aid
      • Enhanced first aid
      • Advanced rescue training
      • Medical fitness certification for offshore work (e.g., OGUK/ENG1).
      • Eurica certificate
      • WTSR Core
  • Behavioural Competencies
    • Strong commitment to safety and high‑quality workmanship.
    • Team player with excellent communication skills.
    • Good problem‑solving ability and resilience while working in challenging offshore environments.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
