A new permanent role has come in for an electrical maintenance engineer in Knowsley (Merseyside) based on the following criteria.

About the Role:

We’re looking for an experienced Shift Maintenance Engineer to join a busy, forward-thinking manufacturing site in the L34 area. This is a hands-on, varied role supporting the smooth operation of high-speed production lines. You’ll be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving a range of machinery and equipment to minimise downtime and ensure efficient production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) tasks in line with schedules and quality standards.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns, minimising production downtime.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and pneumatic faults on a range of production machinery.
  • Record all maintenance activities accurately using job sheets or CMMS where applicable.
  • Follow health & safety protocols, including lock-out/tag-out, permit-to-work, and PPE use.
  • Work collaboratively with production and warehouse teams to resolve equipment-related issues.
  • Escalate unresolved faults or recurring issues to the Lead Engineer.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment, including tools and spare parts areas.
  • Assist with equipment installations, changeovers, and small engineering projects when required.
  • Participate in shift handovers and communicate clearly with incoming/outgoing team members.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to reduce downtime, waste, or inefficiency.

About You:

  • Qualified to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience in both, mainly electrical and mechanical maintenance.
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong fault-finding skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Flexible approach to working shifts and overtime during busy periods.

Hours and rates:

  • Monday to Friday.
  • Rotating 2 weeks of 6am - 2pm and 1 week of 2pm - 10pm.
  • Rate 42k salary.
