This is an opportunity for an experienced practice accountant who is ready to take the next step, with responsibility for a client portfolio, reviewing work, supervising junior team members and developing their experience across accounts, audit and business services. We’re working with an established accountancy practice looking for someone who can take ownership of a varied client portfolio, build strong client relationships and play a key role in reviewing and overseeing work produced by the wider team. All that matters is that you have a solid general practice background, are confident dealing with clients and are ready to take the next step in your career.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing a portfolio of clients and developing strong, long-term relationships
  • Overseeing accounts, tax and business advisory work
  • Preparing and reviewing accounts and tax computations
  • Ensuring statutory returns are completed accurately and within deadlines
  • Reviewing work prepared by junior members of the team and providing constructive feedback
  • Supporting and supervising audit assignments where required
  • Helping to plan workflow and manage competing deadlines across your portfolio
  • Monitoring budgets, fees and recoverability
  • Keeping clients informed about deadlines, obligations and relevant changes
  • Acting as a point of escalation for technical or sensitive client matters
  • Supporting and developing junior members of the team
  • Providing coaching and technical guidance where appropriate
  • Contributing to appraisals and training plans
  • Keeping up to date with relevant accounting and tax legislation
  • Identifying opportunities to introduce clients to other services
  • Supporting Partners and Managers with ad hoc assignments and wider business development

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone with a strong general practice background who is ready to broaden their responsibilities. You’re likely to have experience in:

  • Accounts preparation
  • Corporation tax compliance
  • Managing or supporting a portfolio of clients
  • Reviewing accounts or the work of more junior colleagues
  • Dealing directly with clients
  • Working across limited companies, sole traders and partnerships
  • Planning and managing your own workload and deadlines

Experience of audit and working with charities would be advantageous but isn’t essential. ACA or ACCA qualification would be highly desirable, although candidates who are qualified by experience will also be considered. You may currently be working as a Senior Accountant, Client Manager, Accounts Senior or Assistant Accountant/Manager and feel ready for more responsibility.

The person

Technical knowledge is important, but so is how you work with people. You’ll be confident communicating with clients, comfortable taking ownership of your work and able to build relationships rather than simply processing accounts and moving on to the next job. You’ll also enjoy supporting less experienced colleagues and have the judgement to know when you can deal with something yourself and when it needs to be escalated. Most importantly, you’ll be looking for an opportunity to develop your career and take the next step, rather than simply looking for another accounts preparation role.

What’s on offer?

This is an opportunity to join an established practice in a role that offers increased responsibility, client exposure and the opportunity to develop your management experience. If you’re an experienced practice accountant who feels ready to step up, but perhaps haven’t yet had the opportunity to take that next step, this could be worth a conversation. Apply now or get in touch to find out more.
