Purpose of job


The Financial Controls & Reporting Manager is responsible for safeguarding ODI Global’s financial integrity by leading the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of robust financial control frameworks, high-quality financial data and informative monthly reporting. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, supports strategic decision-making through accurate financial insights, and drives a culture of accountability, transparency, and operational excellence across both the finance and programme functions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities


1. Financial Reporting Leadership



  • Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts.

  • Lead the consolidation process for group entities and ensure the reporting of the entities financials is accurate.

  • Partner with leadership to provide clear financial insights, variance analysis, and performance commentary.

  • Engage in continual improvement in providing insight regarding the financial performance of ODI Global.

  • Ensure an accurate full year forecast is available and presented at all times.


2. Financial Controls & Governance



  • Implement the organisation’s financial control framework, ensuring strong preventative and detective controls across all finance processes.

  • Lead the design and implementation of internal financial control policies, including risk assessments and delegated authorities.

  • Design, implement and manage a new process whereby margin is deducted from projects at source, including communicating the change to all internal stakeholders.

  • Drive continuous improvement of end-to-end finance and programme processes, to promote accuracy and efficiency.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations regarding charitable operations.

  • Work with the Head Strategic Operations and Senior Project Managers to ensure the PABs are up to date at all times.

  • Ownership of the use of the Purchase Ordering system.

  • Ensure that all controls in relation to billings are appropriate, timely and operating as designed.

  • Maintain an aged debt listing and ensure appropriate action is taken for aged debts, entailing clear communication with internal teams who manage the relationships with funders.

  • Maintain payroll data for accurate use by the Programmes.


3. Audit & Compliance Management



  • Oversee internal audit engagements related to financial controls and reporting.

  • Ensure the organisation maintains a strong posture on financial risk management and regulatory compliance.


4. Team Development across Finance



  • Build capability in financial governance, systems literacy, and analytical excellence.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.


5. Systems, Data & Process Optimisation



  • Champion the use of technology to strengthen controls and reporting accuracy.

  • Oversee the integrity of financial data and programme data. Ensure that the PABs and GLs are reconciled on a monthly basis.

  • Drive process standardisation, automation, and digital transformation to improve efficiency and accuracy.

  • Ensure financial data quality and integrity to support accurate reporting and decision-making.


Key Skills & Experience



  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, or equivalent).

  • Good analytical and reporting skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting standards, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Knowledge of Charity SORP.

  • Ability to work autonomously.

  • Strong background in internal controls and risk management.

  • Experience leading finance transformation and process optimisation.

This role is eligible for USS pension scheme membership. If you’re currently enrolled in the SAUL pension scheme, you may need to change schemes. SAUL Care members will be offered the option to transfer to USS, whereas SAUL Start members must transfer to USS in line with the scheme rules.
