A leading national law firm is seeking an experienced Commercial Costs Lawyer to join its specialist Costs team in London. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established national practice acting on complex, high-value commercial litigation matters for a diverse client base. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will provide strategic costs advice across a broad range of commercial disputes, preparing Bills of Costs, managing negotiations and supporting fee earners throughout the litigation process. The Role
- Preparing Bills of Costs for detailed assessment and inter partes proceedings.
- Managing costs negotiations and detailed assessment proceedings.
- Providing strategic costs advice to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Supporting fee earners throughout the lifecycle of commercial litigation matters.
- Liaising directly with clients, counsel and external parties.
- Assisting with the mentoring and development of junior team members where appropriate.
- Managing your own workload while delivering a high standard of client service.
The Candidate
- Applications are welcomed from experienced Costs Lawyers, Costs Draftspeople or Costs Professionals who can demonstrate:
- At least two years' experience in legal costs, ideally within commercial litigation, business disputes or insurance.
- Strong technical knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules relating to costs.
- Experience preparing Bills of Costs and handling detailed assessment proceedings.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong communication and client relationship skills.
- A proactive, commercially minded approach with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Desirable experience includes:
- ACL qualification or equivalent.
- Experience advising commercial, corporate or insurer clients.
- Previous experience within a commercial law firm or specialist costs practice.
