Position Summary: The Director of Retina Marketing role requires strong strategic, communication, and analytical thinking as well as creativity, judgment, and decision-making skills. An ideal candidate brings recent experience and expertise in Retina Marketing and an intrinsic motivation to deeply understand Retina Specialist insights and experience. The Director of Retina Marketing will innovate with a purpose-driven mindset in all aspects of engagement with Retina Specialists and Retina Practices. They will seek, prioritize, and act on insights to develop Retina Marketing strategies and tactics. The Director of Retina Marketing will partner cross-functionally to translate complex science into a clear, compelling, and emotionally resonant brand narrative, ensuring consistency across all customer touchpoints while enabling effective execution across channels and the patient journey.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • The Director of Retina Marketing will be accountable for amplifying positioning into brand creative, shaping its identity, and driving a differentiated market presence that reflects its novel mechanism of action, clinical attributes, and value proposition.
  • This leader will oversee a multi-channel retina specialist activation campaign, driving innovative messaging, and an original campaign and messaging development (disease state education and branded campaign).
  • This individual is expected to be the subject matter expert on retina marketing, with deep understanding of retina practice dynamics (high-volume / throughput workflows).
  • This role requires a high degree of communication, coordination, and cross-functional collaboration across internal teams as well as external stakeholders and agency partners.

Essential responsibilities include:

  • Brand Strategy, Identity & Positioning
    • Develop end-to-end U.S. brand strategy, encompassing positioning, segmentation, targeting, and lifecycle planning.
    • Define the brand identity (core promise, tone, personality, visual direction) in partnership with agency and cross-functional stakeholders.
    • Lead development of core creative messaging and narrative architecture that translates novel MOA and clinical differentiation into compelling, customer-centric stories.
    • Establish a clear and durable competitive frame of reference within retinal disease and evolving treatment paradigms.
    • Ensure consistency of brand identity and messaging across retina, patient, and payer audiences.
    • Design a go-to-market engagement model for retina specialists from disease education through product availability.
    • Responsible for developing and execution of omnichannel framework (NPP / Digital / Media marketing tactics).
  • Creative Direction & Messaging Governance
    • Provide strategic direction to creative agencies on brand campaigns, ensuring alignment to positioning and identity.
    • Set guardrails for message hierarchy, tone, and visual expression across all materials.
    • Review and guide major creative assets to ensure they reinforce differentiation and emotional resonance.
    • Partner with Medical/Legal/Regulatory to maintain compliance without diluting the brand narrative.
  • Demand–Access Integration
    • Partner with Market Access to ensure brand promise is credible and deliverable within buy-and-bill economics.
    • Partner with Payer strategy Team to ensure account value narratives reinforce clinical and economic differentiation.
    • Anticipate and mitigate access friction impacting adoption.
    • Ensure tight alignment between brand messaging and real-world access experience.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership
    • Serve as commercial integrator across Marketing, Sales, Market Access, Medical Affairs, and Patient Engagement.
    • Partner closely with the Executive Director, Retina Marketing to ensure brand identity and messaging translate effectively into patient journey programs, tools, and practice workflows.
  • Insights, Analytics & Brand Performance
    • Synthesize competitive information into clear, actionable insights for commercial, medical, market access, and leadership teams.
    • Define and track KPIs related to:
      • Brand awareness and understanding.
      • Message recall and differentiation.
      • Adoption and engagement.
    • Continuously refine brand narrative and creative approach based on market feedback.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or other advanced degree.
  • Minimum 10 years of marketing experience.
  • Minimum last 5 years working on brand launch (retina preferred).
  • Demonstrated ownership of pre-launch strategy, insights generation, disease education, and cross-functional leadership (buy-and-bill / ophthalmology / retina preferred).
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity that can be present in a high-growth environment.
  • Exceptional professional communications and interpersonal/critical thinking skills necessary.
  • Prior experience with MLR/PRC submissions and process.
  • Desire to innovate and work in a fast-paced, energetic environment.
  • Approaches work with enthusiasm, curiosity, and self-motivation to contribute.
  • Requires up to 30% domestic travel.

Salary Range: $235,000 - $245,000 USD.
