OCU Group are looking for an experienced Ruby on Rails Lead Software Developer to join our growing digital team and play a central role in the development of OCU One, our in-house, bespoke workforce management platform. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the technology that powers the planning and execution of complex Energy Transition, Utilities and Digital Infrastructure projects across the UK.
You’ll be a technical authority across the platform, regularly mentoring other developers and ensuring OCU One remains scalable, performant, and aligned with business goals. As we continue to invest in digital innovation across the group, your work will directly enable our teams to deliver better, faster, and more safely shaping the future of workforce delivery in one of the UK’s most critical infrastructure sectors.
- Experience of professional software development, currently operating at Lead Developer or equivalent level.
- Strong development experience with Ruby on Rails in a production environment.
- Expertise in working with SQL-based databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
- Proven track record of leading development projects, mentoring others, and delivering high-quality systems at scale.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to design for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Experience in Flutter or mobile application development (iOS and/or Android).
- Exposure to containerisation and deployment technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring/logging frameworks, and cloud-native development.
- Background in field-service, construction, or workforce management platforms.
- Experience working on in-house developed platforms or enterprise software.
