Description
OCU Group are currently recruiting for a Grab Driver to join our vibrant and dynamic team! This role is in place to safely and efficiently operate an HGV fitted with a HIAB crane for the loading, transport, and unloading of construction plant (such as dumpers and excavators) and cable drums to and from operational sites. The role supports operational teams by ensuring timely and secure delivery of equipment in compliance with company procedures, road traffic regulations, and health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate an HGV vehicle with a HIAB (lorry-mounted crane) to collect, transport, and deliver plant machinery, tools, and materials including cable drums.
- Carry out pre-use vehicle and crane checks, reporting any defects or maintenance issues promptly.
- Ensure all loads are safely secured, using appropriate restraints, edge protection, and lifting methods in accordance with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
- Load and unload machinery and cable drums using the HIAB crane safely and efficiently.
- Complete all transport documentation, delivery notes, and digital records as required.
- Plan routes effectively to meet delivery schedules while complying with drivers’ hours and road transport regulations.
- Liaise with the workshop, site teams, and Transport Office to coordinate collections and deliveries.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and report any incidents, near misses, or delays.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety, Environmental, and Company policies.
Skills and Experience Required
- Valid Class 1 or Class 2 (Category C or C+E) HGV Licence.
- HIAB certification (e.g., ALLMI or equivalent)
- CPC qualification card and digital tachograph card.
- Proven experience in the movement of plant, machinery, and/or large cable drums.
- Understanding of load security, weight distribution, and safe lifting techniques.
- Good geographical knowledge and route planning ability.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to safety, compliance, and professionalism.
Desirable
- Experience working in utilities, construction, or civil engineering environments.
- CSCS card or site safety awareness training.
