Role Overview: We are seeking a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join our growing commercial team. As a graduate, you will work closely with senior quantity surveyors to support the management of costs, contracts, and project budgets for Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual looking to develop a career in quantity surveying within an exciting and fast-growing sector.

Responsibilities

  • Cost Management: Assist in the preparation and management of cost estimates, budgets, and financial reports for HDD projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Tendering and Procurement: Support the tendering process, including preparing and reviewing tender documents, and liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and negotiate terms.
  • Contract Administration: Assist in managing contracts, ensuring compliance with agreed terms, and identifying and addressing any issues that arise during the contract lifecycle.
  • Project Monitoring: Monitor and track project costs, expenditures, and cash flow, ensuring that any variations or discrepancies are identified and addressed promptly.
  • Risk Management: Help identify project risks, including cost-related risks, and work with the project team to implement strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular progress reports on costs, budgets, and financial performance to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Learning & Development: Participate in professional development activities, including attending relevant training and working towards chartered status with a recognized professional body (e.g., CICES).
  • Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure that financial and contractual aspects of the projects are aligned with the overall objectives.

Qualifications

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.

Skills And Experience

  • A basic understanding of quantity surveying principles, cost estimation, and project management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and experience with quantity surveying software is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to managing project finances.

Desirable But Not Essential

  • Any previous work experience or internships in quantity surveying or construction.
