We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Electrical Engineer to join our growing electrical engineering team. As a Graduate Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a vital role in designing electrical systems for high-voltage power transmission and distribution networks, specifically focused on renewable energy and decarbonisation infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to develop a strong technical foundation in electrical design and gain exposure to cutting-edge energy projects.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Electrical System Design: Assist in the design and development of electrical systems for HV power transmission and distribution networks, ensuring they meet the requirements of renewable energy projects.
- Design Software & Tools: Use industry-standard electrical design software such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory to create and modify electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and system models.
- Project Support: Work closely with senior design engineers to support the preparation of design documentation, specifications, and reports for electrical systems.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure seamless integration of electrical designs into overall project plans.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure all designs adhere to relevant electrical codes, industry standards, and safety regulations (such as IEC, BS7671, and National Grid standards).
- Testing & Validation: Assist in the testing, validation, and commissioning processes to ensure that electrical systems meet performance criteria and quality standards.
- Problem‑Solving & Innovation: Identify areas for improvement within designs, propose engineering solutions, and work with the team to implement them efficiently.
- Health & Safety: Ensure that all designs comply with health and safety regulations and contribute to the promotion of safe working practices within the team.
- Professional Development: Participate in training and development programs to enhance your knowledge of electrical design principles, renewable energy systems, and engineering tools.
Educational Qualifications
- A degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline.
- A strong interest in electrical system design and renewable energy technologies.
Skills and Experience
- A basic understanding of electrical engineering principles, particularly related to HV transmission and distribution systems.
- Experience using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) or electrical design tools is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (IEC, BS7671, IEEE, etc.).
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with colleagues and clients.
- A proactive approach to learning and self‑development.
