About the Opportunity
Join OCU Design as a CAD Technician and play a key role in delivering major infrastructure and energy projects across the UK. Working alongside design engineers, surveyors, and project teams, you’ll produce high‑quality technical drawings that support the successful delivery of EHV cable systems, substations, and low‑carbon energy projects. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex and nationally significant infrastructure schemes while developing your technical expertise within a growing design function. You’ll be involved throughout the design process, helping to transform survey data and engineering concepts into accurate, buildable solutions. Responsibilities
- Produce detailed cable systems design drawings and associated documentation, including route layouts, trench sections, bonding diagrams, joint bays, and cable termination drawings.
- Support the preparation and issue of project and tender documentation.
- Assist engineering surveyors with the production of as-built and record drawings.
- Manage drawing revisions and maintain accurate drawing registers and document control processes.
- Upload, download, and manage project documentation within common data environments (CDEs).
- Ensure all drawings comply with company, client, and industry CAD standards.
- Work closely with design, survey, and project teams to support the successful delivery of projects.
- Undertake occasional site visits to support design validation and data capture activities.
Required Qualifications
- Experience producing technical drawings using AutoCAD.
- Strong understanding of CAD standards, drawing control, and design processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate technical documentation.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience within utilities, infrastructure, civil engineering, or related sectors.
- HNC, HND, degree, or equivalent technical qualification.
- Experience using AutoCAD 3D, Civil 3D, or AutoCAD Map 3D.
- Familiarity with GIS platforms and spatial data.
- Awareness of BIM processes and Revit workflows.
- Experience using common data environment platforms such as SharePoint or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Background in land surveying, engineering surveying, or civil engineering.
- Understanding of survey data capture methods, including GNSS.
- Full UK driving licence.
