The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and ambitious Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. Working alongside experienced professionals, you will gain valuable hands‑on experience across cost management, procurement, reporting, and project delivery while developing the skills needed for a successful long‑term career in the construction and utilities sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports
  • Assist with monitoring project costs and expenditure
  • Help identify and track project variations and change events
  • Support the preparation of valuations and applications for payment
  • Assist with subcontractor administration and payment processes
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation
  • Support the preparation of purchase orders, subcontract documents, and commercial correspondence
  • Ensure project information is accurately recorded and filed
  • Assist with obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations
  • Support procurement activities and tender comparisons
  • Help maintain supplier and subcontractor databases
  • Support the preparation of weekly and monthly commercial reports
  • Assist with cost tracking and project performance monitoring
  • Help analyse project data to support commercial decision-making
  • Develop knowledge of construction contracts, commercial procedures, and industry best practice
  • Attend site visits and project meetings to gain practical experience
  • Work towards personal and professional development goals
  • Learn from experienced Quantity Surveyors and senior team members
  • Work closely with operational, planning, and commercial teams
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Contribute to a collaborative and professional working environment

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Studying towards, or interested in, pursuing a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Organised and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
