As a Plant Fitter, your primary responsibility will be the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a diverse fleet of construction machinery and equipment, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, dump trucks, cranes, and generators. You will work either in a workshop environment or on-site, depending on the nature of the repair or service required.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnosing faults and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems of construction plant machinery.
- Conducting routine servicing and preventative maintenance tasks on equipment to ensure optimal functionality and operational safety.
- Responding promptly to breakdowns and carrying out emergency repairs on-site when necessary.
- Performing inspections and testing of machinery to identify worn or damaged parts that require replacement.
- Advising operators and site managers on the correct and safe use of machinery.
- Completing relevant documentation and maintenance records accurately.
- Always ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Keeping up to date with technical developments and attending training sessions as required.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Proven experience as a Plant Fitter or similar role, preferably within the construction or heavy equipment industry.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in construction machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and drawings.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent would be advantageous.
- A valid driving license and willingness to travel to different sites as required.
