OCU Group are looking to recruit a Design Engineer to play a key role in the design and delivery of LV switchgear, MCCs, and control panel systems.

Working as part of a growing design and manufacturing team, you will gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from concept and design through to build, testing, and commissioning support.

This is a hands-on role where you'll collaborate closely with engineers, project teams, and workshop colleagues to turn designs into real-world solutions.

Whether you're already working in electrical design or have experience with control panels, automation, or electrical systems, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and broaden your experience.

If you enjoy solving problems, learning new technologies, and seeing your work come to life, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll do

  • Support the design and development of LV switchgear, MCCs, and control panel systems.
  • Produce and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts using design software such as Auto CAD Electrical or EPLAN.
  • Help develop complete electrical systems, including the integration of motors, sensors, valves, pumps, PLCs, HMIs, and other field devices.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and workshop teams to support the build and assembly process.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), fault finding, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Assist with technical documentation, quotations, and project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • What you'll bring

Essential

  • Experience or exposure to electrical design, control panels, automation, switchgear, or related electrical systems.
  • An understanding of how electrical systems are designed, built, or connected in practice.
  • A practical, hands-on engineering mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple teams.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a fast-paced engineering environment.

Desirable

  • Experience using Auto CAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software.
  • Experience within a manufacturing, workshop, industrial, or engineering environment.
  • Exposure to PLCs, HMIs, VSDs, relays, sensors, or industrial automation systems.
  • Experience supporting control panel build, assembly, testing, or commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of LV switchgear or motor control centres (MCCs).
  • Electrical engineering qualifications, apprenticeship, HNC/HND, or related technical training.
  • Job Benefits
  • At OCU, we believe that meaningful work should come with meaningful support.

That's the principle behind Careers with Purpose, our commitment to ensuring every person at OCU feels supported, developed, and valued, not just in their role today, but throughout their career with us.

  • Alongside the opportunity to work on some of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects, we offer a benefits package that we are continuing to develop as we grow, and the kind of career acceleration that only comes from being inside a business moving at this pace.
  • As a rapidly growing organisation, there are genuine opportunities to progress, broaden your experience, and build a long-term career within OCU Group.
  • Our vacancies are typically advertised for two weeks; however, we reserve the right to close applications early should we receive a sufficient number of suitable candidates.

We therefore encourage early applications.
