Description
OCU have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Recruiter to come and join us in Glasgow. We are looking for a Senior Consultant to assist in finding the talent who will help power our growth, deliver on our ambitions and shape the future of our business for RJ McLeod and OCU.
We are looking for an experienced and established Senior Recruiter who knows how to find exceptional talent across Utilities and Engineering, influence senior stakeholders and deliver outstanding recruitment outcomes, even when the market is challenging.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of complex, specialist and business critical recruitment, working across OCU’s diverse business areas, including construction, utilities, energy and infrastructure. You will combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, using market insight, creative sourcing and a proactive approach to connect the right people with the right opportunities.
If you’re a trusted recruitment partner who enjoys solving difficult hiring challenges, challenging the status quo and raising the bar for recruitment excellence, we’d love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the recruitment journey Lead end-to-end recruitment for specialist, senior and hard-to-fill roles, from initial briefing and market mapping through to attraction, assessment, offer and onboarding handover. You’ll take ownership, build momentum and deliver a first-class experience at every stage.
- Become a trusted talent advisor Build strong partnerships with hiring managers and senior stakeholders, providing honest advice, market intelligence and data-driven recommendations. You’ll help shape hiring strategies, challenge assumptions constructively and turn complex recruitment needs into practical solutions.
- Find talent others can’t Develop innovative attraction and sourcing strategies, using proactive headhunting, market mapping, talent pooling and competitive intelligence to reach exceptional candidates — including those who aren’t actively looking for their next move.
- Champion fair and inclusive hiring Make a meaningful difference by embedding inclusive recruitment practices, widening talent pools and helping managers make fair, informed and effective hiring decisions.
- Turn insight into impact Use recruitment data, market trends and performance metrics to identify risks, anticipate talent challenges and influence workforce decisions. You’ll also help improve our processes, systems and ways of working.
- Raise the bar for the whole team Share your expertise, coach and support junior colleagues, and champion best practice across the recruitment function. You’ll collaborate across OCU’s wider business areas, helping us maintain consistent, high-quality recruitment delivery as our business continues to grow.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
We are looking for someone who combines recruitment expertise with commercial awareness, confidence and a genuine passion for finding great people.
You will bring:
- Proven senior recruitment experience, with a strong track record of delivering complex, specialist, senior or business-critical appointments end to end.
- Industry knowledge and market understanding, ideally within construction, utilities, engineering, infrastructure or another technical, field-based environment.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence senior leaders, provide constructive challenge and advise on realistic hiring strategies.
- Advanced sourcing expertise, including proactive headhunting, market mapping, competitor research and building talent pipelines for hard-to-fill roles.
- A data-led mindset, using recruitment analytics and market insight to identify trends, manage risk and support better hiring decisions.
- A commitment to inclusive recruitment, with the ability to coach hiring managers and promote fair, accessible selection processes.
- A collaborative leadership style, with the ability to share knowledge, develop colleagues and drive continuous improvement.
- A proactive, adaptable approach, thriving in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift and creative problem-solving is essential.
Above all, you’ll be a confident recruitment professional who takes ownership, builds trusted relationships and cares about delivering results without compromising candidate experience or hiring quality.
