Role

This is a unique opportunity to join an established team of journalists to cover one of the most topical parts of the European credit market - the emerging private credit secondary market. You will be expected to generate leads on private credit borrowers facing pressure and cover transactions involving the buying and selling of existing private credit fund interests or loan portfolios, as well as GP-led deals. Reporting focuses on private equity-owned businesses financed by private debt. You will be expected to produce thematic pieces joining the dots on the most affected sectors as well as uncovering trends. Knowledge of and contacts in private credit funds, the advisory community and private equity are preferred. European languages are considered an advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • Consistently break news on LP, GP-led transactions, as well as stressed large and mid-cap private credit names.
  • Support team members in sourcing deals and enhancing coverage.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with key industry contacts across private equity, private credit and advisory community.
  • Identify and report on new trends and developments in private equity and private credit funds.
  • Collaborate with financial and legal analysts, and other reporters.

Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience in financial journalism with a track record of scoops.
  • Passion for breaking news and cultivating relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain market sources among highly sophisticated deal makers.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely under deadline pressure.
  • Have an eye for detail and a developed analytical/critical thinking.
  • Self-motivated with ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
  • Derive trends from staying close to market sources and spotting patterns from covering deals.
  • Solid understanding of private equity, debt capital markets, specifically private credit, leveraged loans and high yield bonds.
  • The candidate must be collaborative and enjoy working in a multicultural team environment.
