Company Description

At Octopus, we’re entrepreneurs and we’re investors, on a mission to back the people, ideas and industries that will change the world. We think working here is great, but we’re understandably biased.

Job Description

You’ll join the Specialist Finance team, a small and agile team of six responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of businesses held within Octopus Investments’ retail investment products. The portfolio spans energy generation, fibre and real estate, with the team responsible for investment performance, capital allocation and strategic oversight across the underlying businesses.

This is an opportunity that offers great variety and exposure to a critical part of Octopus Investments. You’ll be in a hands-on, strategic role that offers breadth of experience and the chance to work closely with senior stakeholders.

What will you be doing?

  • Manage key aspects of the day-to-day management of the group, including reviewing management information, liquidity management and share price production.
  • Present complex financial and strategic information clearly and confidently to senior stakeholders.
  • Work closely with portfolio company management teams to identify issues, challenge performance and deliver strategic priorities.
  • Drive value creation initiatives across the portfolio, including performance turnarounds, strategic change and product strategy.
  • Lead and execute key refinancing, M&A and other corporate finance workstreams across the portfolio, working alongside senior team members and external advisors.
  • Build and manage relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Bring an analytical, critical lens to complex issues, and use AI tools to enhance your own productivity and output.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years' experience, from industries such as accountancy, law, banking, corporate finance or audit.
  • Transaction experience, ideally including sell-side deal exposure and/or producing diligence for M&A.
  • Comfortable operating in high-deal-volume, high-pressure environments, and able to navigate complex situations.
  • Highly numerate and confident building financial models.
  • Highly analytical, with the ability to grasp complex issues quickly and demonstrate critical assessment and clear conclusions.
  • Highly literate, with a confident, clear and articulate presentation and communication style.
  • A track record of getting projects over the line.
  • Experience managing a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A positive, self-starting attitude, curiosity, and a willingness to muck in.
  • An “AI enabler”, someone who actively uses AI to work smarter.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in real estate or infrastructure (not essential).
  • Prior in-house experience.

We encourage you to apply even if you don't tick every box. If you're looking for a challenge in a fast-paced and dynamic business, we can deliver on that.

Additional Information

  • A competitive salary, bonus, pension and share incentive plan.
  • Untracked holiday.
  • Hybrid working – three days in the office, two days from home.
  • Anchor (our wellness hub) which includes Headspace, one-to-one coaching through Wellness Cloud, Digital GP, employee assistance program & more.
  • Up to 6 months paid parental leave regardless of gender.
  • Life insurance, critical illness cover and income protection.
  • Private medical insurance for you and your family.
  • Electric vehicle leasing.
  • The option to work overseas up to a month per year.
