At Octopus Energy for Business (OEB) we are an established and rapidly scaling energy supplier with more than 120k business customers. We are reinventing Britain’s business energy market by rejecting brokers, delivering great value and outrageously good customer service to all customer segments, pioneering PPA‑backed supply for I&C customers through Electric Match and leading the market for SME smart tariffs with Shape Shifters. Operating within Octopus Energy Group we are committed to helping business customers meet their energy needs through technology, renewables and flexibility.
This role will be one of the first hires to the team building out OEB’s I&C behind‑the‑meter capabilities. This team will develop a clean energy behind‑the‑meter offering for OEB’s larger business customers. Working closely with existing Group companies focused on on‑site wind and solar this role will support the technical development of OEB’s on‑site proposition with a strong focus on integrating behind‑the‑meter batteries and flexibility into Octopus’s B2B solution set.
What you’ll do:
- Support customer proposals with technical solution development expertise for on‑site low carbon tech solutions to save customers money, support site resilience and reduce carbon emissions.
- Lead technical system design and equipment specifications for the initial I&C on‑site project pipeline as we begin to gain traction in this market.
- Work with Octopus’s low carbon tech procurement teams to develop the right preferred supplier relationships for I&C behind‑the‑meter projects, primarily across OEMs and EPCs for solar, wind and BESS, prioritising cost, quality and reliability of partners.
- Work closely with teams across OE Group to pull together the necessary technical capabilities to deliver our behind‑the‑meter propositions.
- Work with Legal teams to develop the required suite of contracts to support low carbon on‑site solutions, including defining how we back‑to‑back technical risks through to equipment and service partners.
What you’ll need:
- Professional experience and track record in distributed energy, on‑site low carbon solutions and services for I&C scale business customers.
- Broad technical expertise across on‑site solution development, power systems engineering, technical system modelling, site evaluations, equipment specifications and supplier management.
- A strong technical grounding in low carbon technology, in particular on‑site solar and battery systems.
- Familiarity with the UK market for EPCs and OEMs for solar, BESS and other clean energy technologies.
- Knowledge of flexibility markets and how optimised remotely managed systems can unlock additional customer value.
- Hunger for professional accountability and a willingness to get your hands dirty to make things happen in the early stages of a new venture.
- The capacity to deal with ambiguity and to bring clarity and build momentum with customers and internal team members.
Why else you’ll love it here:
- Octopus Energy Group is a unique culture. An organisation where people learn, decide, and build quicker. Where people work with autonomy, alongside a wide range of amazing co‑owners, on projects that break new ground.
- We want your hard work to be rewarded with perks you actually care about!
- We’ve also been placed in the top 10 companies for senior leadership.
