At Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN), we are passionate about powering a sustainable future. As pioneers in the renewable energy space, we invest in people, communities, and a greener tomorrow. Since stepping into the renewables arena in 2010, we have made waves - becoming a top investor in onshore wind across mainland Europe and the largest backer of solar power in Europe. Today, we proudly manage over £7bn in renewable energy assets worldwide. Our portfolio includes over three hundred major energy-generating companies, from wind farms to solar power plants, with exciting new ventures in energy storage, e-fuels and beyond.
Team Overview: The Development Portfolio Management Team at OEGEN is in charge of delivering our development investments and works hand in hand with developers to deliver on the investment cases in changing commercial and market dynamics. Your mission will be to make our large development portfolio across Europe a huge success. It spans different maturity stages (from early-stage land to ready to build) and five countries. We are looking for someone who is very commercially minded, understands renewables development, loves data and communicates clearly with the team and senior stakeholders.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Commercial Management: You will be responsible for the commercial management of multiple development pipelines, working closely with developers to ensure delivery of investment objectives and progress of projects through development milestones to ready to build. You will be the first point of contact with each developer, manage day-to-day coordination and communication with developers and lead operational reviews of pipelines. Lead on value maximisation of each development project including time of exit, sale preparation, revenue contracting, last mile development and other activities ensuring the best returns to investors on exit. Provide strategic oversight and direct management of portfolio companies, providing briefings and solutions to decision makers (such as board directors and fund managers). Monitor valuation and financial performance of investments to optimise returns and conduct regular assessments of investment and overall portfolio performance against objectives. Identify and mitigate risks related to the performance of the portfolio, enhancing investment resilience and performance.
- Governance Oversight: Responsible for implementing, maintaining and enhancing governance frameworks to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements. Work closely with senior management and shareholders of portfolio companies and partners to ensure that governance practices are well-managed and operational processes are optimised. Be an active member of operational committees and an observer on boards.
- Team Leadership and Support: You will work within a team of commercial managers and will role model execution of day-to-day role, while fostering a culture of empowerment and continuous improvement. You will work closely with OEGEN Fund Managers to deliver the overarching fund objectives. You will be responsible for reporting against the development and investment KPIs.
What you’ll need:
- Strong commercial acumen with a proven track record in managing investments, assets and/or development pipelines against investment objectives delivery.
- Be a pro-active and self-starting senior team member who has a strong sense of ownership, “can do” attitude, strong team spirit and ability to grow team members.
- Proficient in financial modelling, accounting, project management, data and reporting.
- Experience in establishing and managing corporate governance structures.
- Experience managing and driving strategic initiatives for a portfolio of businesses/developers with renewable assets.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills, adept at engaging and influencing a diverse stakeholder group.
- Preferably but not mandatory experience in sales of renewables energy assets (development, in construction or operational).
