We're united by a shared goal: to drive the global green energy revolution. We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified Legal Counsel to join the Octopus Energy Group Legal Team in London. We're a small, ambitious team of 8 advising on all legal aspects of our rapidly growing global business. We're looking for a lawyer who can turn their hand to anything, and having a solid founding in corporate and/or commercial law with a desire to take ownership of broader matters will make you a great fit. This role offers a challenging and exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of legal matters, including M&As, Investments and other legal work where you can take ownership of your work from day one. This means supporting on M&A, acquisitions, equity investments, employee share schemes, and core corporate governance. Draft & Negotiate Commercial Contracts: This means you'll get to handle complex commercial agreements, including key partnerships, tech licensing, innovative trials, customer-facing terms, and vendor supply agreements. We move fast as a business so our legal team has to move fast as well. You'll offer fast, commercial advice across diverse day-to-day matters including data protection, IP management, competition, and general compliance. Manage External Counsel: You'll work directly with our small panel of external law firms on high-value or specialist transactions, ensuring work aligns with our internal business goals. To be fully qualified lawyer in the UK or similar common law jurisdiction, we're most interested in the "right" person, but as a guide, you'll have around 2-4 years post qualification experience. You'll need solid founding in corporate and/or commercial law. In-house experience (or private practice with an in-house secondment) in a fast-paced environment is ideal. You'll need to be comfortable taking end-to-end ownership of projects with light supervision, taking the initiative to get involved in acquisition steps, and executing tasks independently. You have a pragmatic, business-first approach to risk. You'll need the ability to juggle competing deadlines, multi-task, and make firm decisions on legal queries in a fast-paced setting.
