At Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN), we are passionate about powering a sustainable future. As pioneers in the renewable energy space, we invest in people, communities, and a greener tomorrow. Since stepping into the renewables arena in 2010, we have become a top investor in onshore wind across mainland Europe and the largest backer of solar power in Europe. Today, we proudly manage over £7bn in renewable energy assets worldwide.

Our portfolio includes over three hundred major energy-generating companies, from wind farms to solar power plants, with exciting new ventures in energy storage, e-fuels and beyond. As we continue to grow, we are looking for passionate individuals to join our diverse and dedicated team, helping us drive the future of renewable energy forward.

As part of our Centre of Excellence, which provides specialist contract, construction, technical, safety and operational expertise across funds and technologies, we are looking for a Health & Safety Manager. The Health & Safety Manager is the lead for health and safety across OEGEN’s portfolio, embedding proactive risk management, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and strengthening a culture of safety excellence. This role does not carry sole operational responsibility for contractor safety or site-level delivery but instead ensures that effective systems, oversight, competent parties and governance are in place. This position requires an average of 3 days in the office per week in London.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide direction and accountability for H&S within OEGEN.
  • Oversee and manage the performance of external H&S advisory providers.
  • Act as the focal point for OEGEN boards and funds on H&S performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Champion continuous improvement and a positive safety culture across diverse technologies and geographies.
  • Develop and maintain OEGEN’s H&S strategy, policies, and management system, aligned with international best practice and local legal requirements.
  • Provide oversight, ensuring that H&S duties are appropriately delegated to external service providers and contractors.
  • Lead board-level engagement on H&S, delivering clear, actionable insights.
  • Advise on H&S policy, systems, and standards, ensuring compliance across jurisdictions.
  • Conduct reviews and gap analyses against regulatory requirements, advising on best practices.
  • Maintain oversight of supplier competence frameworks and contractor approvals.
  • Oversee identification, assessment, and monitoring of key safety risks across the portfolio.
  • Ensure OEGEN directors and teams are appropriately trained to fulfil their H&S duties.
  • Embed H&S risk management within investment and operational decision-making.
  • Consolidate H&S KPIs and incident data provided by external advisors, preparing clear board-level reporting with trend analysis.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for major H&S incidents, providing confident leadership during crises.
  • Coordinate advisory input and ensure alignment to OEGEN’s incident management.
  • Support lessons learned processes to drive continuous improvement.

What you’ll need:

  • Strong background in renewable energy or complex infrastructure sectors.
  • In-depth understanding of UK CDM regulations, with experience managing safety from a client’s perspective.
  • Experience working with external advisors and managing H&S across multiple geographies.
  • Ability to communicate complex risks to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Flexible, collaborative, and solutions-focused mindset, with willingness to travel internationally.
